Questa scena militare, incentrata sulla firma di un trattato per la sospensione delle ostilità o la resa di una città assediata, come si può evincere dalla descrizione dei secondi piani, con postazioni di artiglieria piazzate in apposite aperture praticate su contrafforti, vicino a cumuli di terreno artificiali, vegliati da soldati e su cui sono issate bandiere, costituisce un’interessante nuova acquisizione al pur già cospicuo catalogo del Simonini. Infatti, essa riunisce le sue specifiche peculiarità di battaglista a quelle del paesaggista, le quali ultime continuarono a essere coltivate anche nella sua piena maturità, spesso quale sfondo di scene militari, siano esse battaglie vere e proprie, o spostamenti di truppe, attendamenti o episodi correlati a campagne militari… (vedere catalogo Giamblanco 2015)

An interesting new addition to Simonini’s already hefty catalogue, this military scene revolves around a treaty being signed to cease hostility or surrender a besieged town, as it can be inferred from the description in the background, with artillery outposts placed in correspondence of the breaches on the buttresses, with some artificial earth mounds next to them, guarded by some soldiers and on which some flags have been hoisted. In fact, it combines the specific style of a battle painter to that of a landscape painter, and the latter was developed also throughout his full maturity, often as a backdrop to military scenes, be them actual battle scenes, or troops relocating, encampments or episodes related to military campaigns… (see GALLERIA GIAMBLANCO
